About the club

Welcome to Edgbaston Hockey Club - Established in 1885

We are the second oldest hockey club in England, with a rich and successful history and a thriving social scene.

We’ve come a long way since 1885 when the club played at the tennis club on Edgbaston Park Road and had just one team. Now we play in the heart of Edgbaston with 20 teams and over 250 club members.

Our medium term objective is to achieve National League status for both the Men’s and Ladies’ 1st XI’s. The men were just 2 places off this feat in the 2010/11 season.

TEAMS & PITCHES

We cater for all levels and abilities, with 8 men’s league teams, 5 ladies’ league teams and a variety of teams for veterans, juniors and touring mixed sides called “Edghogs”.

We have two experienced coaches who have both played National League hockey and who are dedicated to helping develop our elite players.

Arron Nicholson and Megan Harris, our men’s and ladies’ club captains, are supported by 13 team captains and junior and vets organisers to help deliver great hockey games to our members of all ages and abilities.

Our junior hockey is managed by Malcolm Kemble and supported by Alan Miller, both former 1st team players with National League and County experience.

We play our home games at two superb pitches - the newly resurfaced, international standard University of Birmingham water-based pitches and the Edgbaston High School for Girls' (EHS) sand-dressed pitch. Plans are also underway for an additional astro-pitch and clubhouse in Edgbaston.

CLUB LIFE

EHC’s vision is to be a club recognised for the opportunities it offers members of all ages and abilities.

The social side of our game is key to making the club what it is. The Edg spirit runs through all our teams and is charged up each year by successful socials during the season and our Easter touring team “The Edghogs”.

The team spirit is kept alive by the dedicated committee of volunteers who work hard all year round to keep the club running smoothly.

Why not contact us today if you are interested in finding out more about our club either as a player, official, coach or volunteer.
